No need to be sorry. You have good points. The one good thing about lunch
is that it is a function to which people can apportion their conference
time. It is in a relatively quiet environment and as such conducive to
exchange. Having a larger group means that you have to have someone
directing the meeting. Or else, everyone stands with food in their hands
and tries to look smart doing so. It is a trick I have mastered long ago,
by having a very small plate with a few things in it when I walk around
talking to people. If I want to eat, I just find a chair and I eat. I can
then get up and walk around some more with a drink (Ginger Ale) or another
small plate.
All in all, I think the lunch format is best. If you have found it boring
in the past, it's because you have never sat at my table. I eat super
quick and talk while everyone else eats. :)
I think we should stick with the lunch format.
Kind regards,
Denys. . .

Instead of doing a lunch, why not arrange some other sort of get-together
such as a designated 3000-L area at one or both of the HP reception and the
big party event?
The lunches tend to be rather boring IMHO, since you end up only talking to
the ~7 other people who end up sitting at your table, and there isn't much
opportunity to mix with other groups. It's a tradition that I can't say I
would miss very much (so ˇ ”Denys).
Not that I'm planning to go to HP World this year.
