From Pete Crosby at HP:
Paul,
As near as I can tell the B.01.04 version should be fine.
The B.01.05 version fixed the following problem:
>Patch/iX creates bad SLT second time if first attempt had a bad tape
> >PatchiX failed in Sysgen due to tape drive problem. When restarted
>and if recovery option is used, it forgets to issue file-equation
>for START. Thus the original START.MPEXL.SYS gets written to the
>tape instead of the newly built one in INSTALL.SYS.
If PATCHIX does not abort or you don't break and abort it, you
should be fine. If it does abort for some reason, correct the
problem and start from scratch (do not recover/resume the prior
attempt) and you should be okay.
The B.01.06 version corrects a problem introduced by version B.01.05.
So, if you are careful you should be able to use version B.01.04
with no problems.
