Sure, why not? You read some data, write it to disc/tape, re-read the data, then compare it to what you just wrote (in very simple terms). You're doing more stuff and that takes time. I have always allowed double the time for any operation that involves verification.

Not to be a smart-aleck, but that's the price you pay for peace of mind. :-)

I think that's its basic function, yes (though it will 'verify' files that
don't exist on the system), and some longer run time seems reasonable.  Is
2x reasonable/normal?
