There is a new utility to account for your files on backups on the HP e3000.
CSB200 is a COBOL program which tracks file backups using a KSAM file.
The program can list the current backups, list backed up files with the
associated backups, list the files and other volumes for a tape backup for
a particular tape volume serial number, and even generates a file restore
for a particular file for a particular backup which can be streamed to
recover the file.
While this product is quite narrowly specifically designed for Roc
Software's Backpack with Tapes+, the program might be tailored for use with
other backup combinations.
CSB200 does not accommodate hierarchical or long file names, just the
standard file.group.account files.
The backup file utility may be found at:
http://www.assertiveincompetence.com/
using the MPE ix & OS/390 button on the left side of the page.
Clicking on the Restore button will bring up documentation intended for the
user.
Additional information we would not normally want the user to know, like
how to initialize the file and update it with the "rfile" are contained in
the documentation at the front of the CSB200 program at:

BTW: Those interested in "Assertive Incompetence--An Introduction to
Management Malpractice" may now use secured MasterCard / Visa for
purchasing it through the http://www.assertiveincompetence.com/ Internet
