I recently did my first upgrade from 5.5 to 6.0
(granted not 6.5 as you requested) but I am sure things
are similar.

The major advantage of using a CD would be that you can
skip a reboot because you do not have to boot from a factory
CSLT.

As far as disadvantages, I can't think of any.
