If you have MPEX, you may use the PRINTOPREPLY function. It will return
a string variable.

Does anybody know of a little utility program that can be placed in
a batch
job that would then prompt the console for a reply and it would then set a
variable based on the reply before moving on? I'm not looking for variable
replacement at stream time but rather variable creation during execution of
a job.
