I've heard several variations of this story over the years. My favorite takes
place during World War II and involves a Nazi soldier, an old woman, a young
girl, and a Frenchman. After the sound of a kiss and a slap in the dark, the
Nazi has the red mark on his face. These are the thoughts of the people on the
train:
Old woman: "How virtuous of that young girl, to defend her honor!"
Young girl: "How strange of that soldier, to kiss the old woman when I'm right
here!"
Nazi soldier: "How lucky for that Frenchman -- he kisses the girl, and I'm the
one who gets slapped!"
Frenchman: "How clever of me -- I kiss the back of my hand, slap the Nazi, and
no one suspects me!"

In a train carriage there was Bill Clinton, George Bush, a spectacular
looking blonde and a frightfully awful looking fat lady. After several
minutes of the trip, the train passed through a dark tunnel, and the
unmistakable sound of a slap is heard. When they leave the tunnel, Clinton
has a big red slap mark on his cheek.
(1) The blonde thinks - "That Clinton wanted to touch me and by
mistake, he must have put his hand on the fat lady, who in turn
must have slapped his face"
(2) The fat lady thinks - "That dirty old Bill Clinton laid his
hands on the blonde and she smacked him."
(3) Bill Clinton thinks - "George put his hand on that blonde
and by mistake she slapped me."
(4) George Bush thinks - "I hope there's another tunnel soon so
I can smack Clinton again."
