Okay, I checked the archives and printed out the several checklists that are
there concerning "How To Install A New Disk" (I agree with Cat - the
archives and the people who contribute to this list are fantastic!).
However, now I have a problem.

I have configured the path:

PATH: 56/52.1 LDEV:
  ID: PSEUDO TYPE: DA
PMGR: TRANSPARENT_MGR PMGRPRI: 6
LMGR: MAXIOS: 0

PATH: 56/52.1.0 LDEV: 50
  ID: A3646A TYPE: DISC
PMGR: SCSI_DISC_DM PMGRPRI: 8
LMGR: LOGICAL_DEVICE_MANAGER MAXIOS: 0

The dip switch on the HASS is set to 1. I have configured the device:

LDEV: 50 DEVNAME: OUTDEV: 0 MODE:
ID: A3646A RSIZE: 128 DEVTYPE: DISC
 PATH: 56/52.1.0 MPETYPE: 4 MPESUBTYPE: 2
CLASS: DISC SPOOL

And I installed the disk in the HASS. However, it does not show up in DSTAT
as a LONER, and when I attempt to access the device via VOLUTIL, I get this:

:volutil
Volume Utility A.02.00, (C) Hewlett-Packard Co., 1987. All Rights Reserved.
volutil: scratchvol 50
*Warning: No volume mounted on ldev 50.
*Instruction: Mount a volume and wait for it to be recognized!
*Verify: Volume now mounted on ldev 50. Continue [Y/N] ?n

So, what do you think? So far I have tried deleting the Ldev and re-adding
it, and removing and reinserting the disk drive into the HASS, but nothing.
One other note, when I do the removal and reinsertion of the drive, I get
the following on the console:

AVR Failure on Ldev 50
Status = FFD40071, # 40 (AVR 6)

Could it possibly be a bad disk drive?
