David,
We had a similar problem when we got our DLT7000. It had to do with
compression, but I cannot remember if it was hardware or software. We
had to turn it off to restore the file. I have not been able to locate
my notes on it. Maybe someone else on the list can help with the
syntax.

I'm having a DLT restore problem I'm hoping somebody can help with.
I've been using a backup routine without problems for about 5 years.
Last
week, I began using a supposedly new DLT7000 drive for the backups.
Here's
the problem.....
     STORE - OK
     VSTORE - OK
     RESTORE - Media read errors.

This seems to be an intermittent problem. I've been able to store
and
restore 1 - 2 Gb of files in testing, and I've been able to perform
multiple VSTOREs on the tapes. Sometimes following a bad RESTORE I'm
able
to VSTORE the tape without errors, but other times I can't.

Anyone have any ideas? Does this sound like a bad tape drive?
