From the article:
"Open Skies, used a message-based system to access inventory. Travel
agents often had to wait 10 or 15 minutes to find out if a seat was
available. Sabre works in real time, letting agents complete orders
while customers are still on the phone."

The article explanation however for why Open Skies was so slow for
this user seems highly suspect.   To wit: a message-based system is
not real time.
o   I thought that Open Skies was designed as a real time system.
o  Also, unless my understanding of what these terms is all wrong
message-based systems can be either real time or batch.    Internally,
real time business systems in fact use all kinds of message like
queues.   Comments?

I wonder what was really going on?
