Ok an easy way to this if you only need it once in a while, is to use the
calculator that comes with Windows. Change the view to Scientific & select
the BIN (binary) option; then start entering the values (one's & zeros) you
want for each option starting from the left. Once you've got all 16 bits
entered, just hit the DEC (decimal) button & read the value. It's not the
most efficient method, but it works!

ascii/binary whether I start on the left side or right side and how it all
works.
