The domain line is wrong. This is an extremely common mistake, based on the
questions I get from people installing sendmail.

What I suspect is happening there is that Samba is trying to do a hostname
lookup for hp979.hp979.windsong-services.co.uk. Which is most likely not what
you want. ;-)
The domain line in RESLVCNF.NET.SYS is supposed to be a *PARTIAL* domain name
that omits the leading hostname part. I.e. what you probably want to put in
RESLVCNF.NET.SYS is:
domain windsong-services.co.uk
