That's the way it works on my system. However, I do make a change as soon
as I install Windows NT or 2000 so that when I double-click on My Computer
or do start | run | c:\, Explorer comes up in the two panes (or is it too
in pain.)

So what is the trick you ask. No registry trick needed. Open Explorer and
go to Tools-> Folder Options -> File Types. Scroll down until you see the
Folder icon with Folder beside it (these entries are sorted by extension,
the one you are looking for is N/A.) Click on Advanced. In the Actions
window, you will have at least open and explore. Highlight explore and
click "Set Default." From this day forward, Explorer start as you want it.

Kind regards,

Denys. . .

Subject: OT: Windows Explorer Question

Talk about way off topic, but with the lack of fruitful discussions on this
good Friday the 13th, I'd like to ask a question. I should probably ask on
some other forum but I'm confident someone here's got an answer.

---
If you click on start | run and type in C:\, you get an explorer window
with
a view of the root directory.

Is it possible, through registry edits or otherwise, to have this window
pop
up in a two-pane window? In other words, the same style as if you click on
start | programs | windows explorer. The drive list is on the left. The
contents of folders is presented in the right pane.

It'd be nice to cause this to be the default explorer style. Granted I can
cause this by typing "explorer" or "explorer /n,/e,C:\" but "default" would
be better.

or Computer Week issues" S.
