No off-topic tag, because it might end up not being off-topic ;-)

I'd like to try Java based LPR freeware for sending a printout from
the HP 3000, but I have no idea how to set up a printer or Windows PC
or Linux machine to accept LPR/LPD.

Does anybody have a "cheat-sheet" or "way to difficult warning"?
