A quick perusal of those two copies revealed these differences:

May 2001 (Regular Edition) May 2001 (Alert Diver Edition)

122 pages 106 pages (same Cover Headlines)

Feature articles on pp. Identical Feature articles on
10. 16, ..., 36. identical pages.

Feature articles on pp, None of these articles.
104, 106, 119, 120, 121.

"I learned" article on p. 122. Same article on p. 106.

Same ads, same infomercials otherwise. Does anyone know that
significance of the "Alert Diver Edition"? Does anyone read this
magazine besides Strike's "Mate in the States. <...> busy
terrorising nurse sharks!) :-)" and know the reason for the two
different editions?
