Apologies to the list for continuing this particular thread, but since my
name has been dragged into it in an unwarranted manner, I need to set the
record straight. If anyone's looking for flames below, though, I'm afraid
you'll be disappointed. :-)

Mischaracterization, as far as my involvement is concerned. Observant
readers will note that this is my first post in this thread. In that other
thread, I simply addressed Bob's misperception that my recent posts
to/regarding him were flames. So now he drags me into this thread to
complain that he didn't get away with hit-and-run tactics?

Not all disagreements, granted, but Bob certainly characterized my recent
posts as "flames", i.e. personal attacks. This is verifiably untrue. Any
objective reader who has the inclination to do so can check the following
links and determine for him/herself if I did so.

http://raven.utc.edu/cgi-bin/WA.EXE?A2=ind0103&L=scuba-se&P=R9619 This is
my first post involving Bob on either Scuba-SE or -L in over TWO years. In
it, I responded to Bob's request for any American listmember's opinion about
the commonly understood usage of a word. No flames there that I can see,
just a polite disagreement.

http://raven.utc.edu/cgi-bin/WA.EXE?A2=ind0103&L=scuba-se&P=R10152 More on
the thread in the previous post. Still no flames.

http://raven.utc.edu/cgi-bin/WA.EXE?A2=ind0104&L=scuba-se&P=R6851 This is
in response to Bob's characterization of me as one of "three who have been
KNOWN to find any excuse to flame "Bob"." Anyone see any flames here from
me? Anyone?

http://raven.utc.edu/cgi-bin/WA.EXE?A2=ind0104&L=scuba-se&P=R8550 This is
my response to Bob's further mischaracterizations. Still no flames from me,
though I was perhaps a bit incredulous in the final paragraph. Tellingly
enough, Bob didn't bother responding; instead, he dragged me into this
thread.

So, if anyone has actually made it this far, my apologies for this
long-winded and boring post. But when my actions are mischaracterized, my
motives are impugned, and I am dragged into a thread on "Derogatory ethnic
terms", I have no choice but to defend myself.

Happily, along the way I got to disabuse Bob of one of his cherished
misperceptions (no flames in over two years, despite many opportunities),
and to add another item to his list of things he has been wrong about. :-)

Regards,
Steven
