c|net's NEWS.COM has a short story on defective 17-inch hp monitors
that may electrically jolt the user. Copying from
http://news.cnet.com/news/0-1006-200-5385194.html
in its entirety:
"Some Hewlett-Packard monitors could electrically shock users, the
company said Thursday, offering to replace problem monitors.
"Hewlett-Packard said 0.01 percent of the 17-inch HP 71 monitors,
model D8903A, were defective, but it did not say how many in total
had been sold since it began shipping in July 2000 to the United
States, Canada and such Latin American countries as Argentina, Chile,
Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.
'"In rare circumstances, there is a risk of electric shock if a user
comes in contact with a specific and limited area on the top of a
defective monitor," HP said in a statement without elaborating.
"A spokeswoman was not available for comment.
"The company said customers in the United States and Canada should
call a toll-free number for help (800-428-2446). Those in Latin America
should contact the local HP customer care center."
