hi again :-)

let's try this one....  got a small system (not much disc)
that normally can do a full backup onto one dds tape (with
compression disabled).  the store command is 'store
/;*t;directory' -- real straight forward.  suddenly,
inexplicably, the backup begins to request a 2nd tape -- and
there's been no appreciably change in what's stored on the
system (no magic account/directory suddenly appeared).  a
couple of days later, the exact same process asks for a
third tape.  and a couple of days after that a fourth tape!
and remember this is a tiny system -- with very little
activity and nothing like syslog or sendmail running.
listdir is showing that the second tape is exactly the same
as the first tape (is that normal?) -- like the system is
storing whatever was on the first tape all over again onto
the second/third/fourth tapes!

any ideas about what could be happening?  the only thought
so far is to reboot the box <sigh>      - d
