hi again :-)
let's try this one.... got a small system (not much disc)
that normally can do a full backup onto one dds tape (with
compression disabled). the store command is 'store
/;*t;directory' -- real straight forward. suddenly,
inexplicably, the backup begins to request a 2nd tape -- and
there's been no appreciably change in what's stored on the
system (no magic account/directory suddenly appeared). a
couple of days later, the exact same process asks for a
third tape. and a couple of days after that a fourth tape!
and remember this is a tiny system -- with very little
activity and nothing like syslog or sendmail running.
listdir is showing that the second tape is exactly the same
as the first tape (is that normal?) -- like the system is
storing whatever was on the first tape all over again onto
the second/third/fourth tapes!
any ideas about what could be happening? the only thought
so far is to reboot the box <sigh> - d
