I have a question regarding how the HP3000 allocates and uses the Oracle SGA
memory.
Should the SGAUTIL allocation be very closely matched to that used by the
actual database?
I know what happens if SGAUTIL space is too small - the database failes to
start. But what if it is too big? Is this "preallocated" space wasted
space within the HP3000 memory?
eg. in the following example, I have displayed SGAUTIL, and the SGA for the
XX database. Are we totally wasting approx 13.2 Meg (ie. 32 Meg - 18.8
Meg)? If so, I suspect I should take steps to either reduce the SGAUTIL
allocation or utilize it by increasing various init.ora parameters if I
think they will help performance.
Many thanks,
Rodney.
