Subject: Re: [HP3000-L] Disk/file defragmentation
What are the benefits of Defraging? I'm always weary of such tools that
move my data around on the disks fearing that it might cause a problem. Do
you do a backup first?
* not essentially needed ... but not the worst thing. you may start the
* defrag run just after a backup.
Is it a good idea to do this? Has anyone suffered any ill effects of
Defraging with any of the vendors' tools?
* yes, if there is no unfragmented space any longer. files in continuous
* space will improve the access "speed" in ns/ms ...
* as said yesterday: DSM works like a charme ... also on DBs
I'd like to look into this. Sherry from Lund calls me religiously each
month and I provide the same "I haven't installed it yet" response.
Similarly, although I have MPEX, I've never XLTRIM'd any files due to the
cautionary statement that was provided in the manual. I always figured
disc(k) was cheap, so just get more.
I look forward to your replies.

* I do not know the LUND tools but it's not the worst thing to defrag.
* But I also have my problems in using XLTIMming s.th. - I will NEVER
* use it ...
