There is an interesting method of imbedding messages in files (such as
bitmaps) called "steganography".  There are some freeware programs available
IIRC.  I could use this to imbed a personal fingerprint to prove ownership.
Law enforcement has spent a lot of money to be able to detect steganographic
messages, however.  They figure organized crime and druglord types are using
this method to communicate.
