Eric,
Do you have a PSEUDO device configured between the SCSI card and the tape
drive? It should look something like this:
2/4.0 ID=HP2464A-SCSI
2/4.0.2 ID=PSEUDO
2/4.0.2.0 ID=HPC1537A
Under 5.5 it was "OK" to configure a SCSI device directly underneath the
SCSI adapter, but under 6.0 it became mandatory to include the PSUEDO device
in between. This may explain the behavior you are seeing.
