I wouldn't worry much about the DTC's and end-of-support (hardware support
that is).  DTCs should be treated like a cheap disposable peice of peripheral
hardware.  You can (and probably should) buy a spare DTC and get it
configured into the system so that if anything goes wrong with a production
DTC, you can just do a little cable unplugging/re-plugging and you are back
in business.  I've found that spare DTCs and spare ports on DTCs are very
desireable from a problem prevention/problem resolution standpoint.
