Sounds like the server you're trying to connect to is a m$ Exchange server
which someone has configured to accept "secure transmissions" only...

                I have been using Telemon's Freeware MAILNM for months now
without
                problems.  This week the program aborts with a message "505
Secure
                Channel Required".

                Any ideas why this message occurs?
