Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, HP_ALIGN appears not to work under
gcc. Furthermore, the __attribute__ ((aligned(2))) which, in gcc, looked like
it would accomplish the same thing can only set the minimum alignment, so it
can't force int to work on a two-byte boundary. I'm going with a macro to do
the sum at the moment, but if I'm obviously missing something, I'd be delighted
to hear.
