For those interested in Wayne's request for particulars on how we managed to
get a 256X serial printer to work with network printing:

Relevant entry in NPCONFIG for printer :-

2900   (network_address = 172.16.102.27          # Class = LP28
        pjl_supported = FALSE                    # Not a PJL/PCL device.
        setup_file = HP2564.LPENV.SYSTEMS)       # 10.00 CPI

setup_file holds :-

<esc>&k0S (that's zero not uppercase oh).

Hardware bit :-

JetDirect Box connected to Serial/Parallel converter by standard parallel
cable. Converter connected to printer by standard serial cable. XON/XOFF
flow control was enabled on the converter.

979 thought it was talking to parallel printer and printer thought it was
talking to DTC. Was told it wouldn't work. Didn't tell the printer so it
just carried on doing it's job --- printing reports.

A happy new year to you one and all.

box.

If you can get a 256x printer to work using network printing then you have
accomplished something interesting... elimination of a DTC at least for
remote sites. Can to share the particulars???

Question: Isn't there a JetDirect External with a serial interface? I
thought there was one. that would eliminate the Serial/parallel converter
box.
