If you're out tonight, and you have clear skies, you need to look at the
Moon. This first moon of 2001 looks as if it were taken directly from "2001".

In the movie, when the spacecraft Discovery has reached Jupiter space, one
long shot shows the four Galliean moons in a perfect vertical line with
Jupiter -- along the monolith in the same orbital plane.

Last night, and again tonight, Jupiter and Saturn were (and will be) in a
nearly identical alignment with the Earth's moon.

If not completely cosmic in its meaning, at least it is extremely pretty to
look at.
