Folks,

during the last days we had some strange problems with Sendmail/iX under
6.0 PP2.
Digging deeper I found strange things:

* MAILX returns
cannot lock file "/usr/mail/MANAGER.SYS"
instead of opening a mailbox - also when one exists.

workaround: use MAILX from 5.5 - lucky I am I detected the problem two days
before I will update the last 5.5 system.

* TSMAIL returns

tsmail: cannot lock file "/usr/mail/MANAGER.SYS"
tsmail: cannot lock file "/usr/mail/SERVER.SENDMAIL"
554 <[log in to unmask]>... unknown mailer error 1

when sending eMails from other systems to the HP e3000. This is seldom used
so nobody saw the undelievered messages.

workaraound: use TSMAIL from 5.5

I already opened a call in the German CRC but I'm interested
* whether somebody can verify this and
* whether there is already a solution either in Sendmail/iX (Mark ?) or in
MPE.
