I hate to revive an old and probably tired subject, but I still am a bit
confused about the subject.
I currently have 2 HP 4050 TN LaserJets on our network, both of which are
also
configured as HP 3000 printers. No problem with this, I just set them up in
sysgen and add addresses to the NPCONFIG file. Works like a charm.
I also have a CanonPrinter/Copier/Fax and a Xerox Document Center on the
network that I would also like to utilize as HP3000 printers. I set them up
as I did the "HP Products", but the Spooler does not cooperate. I can spool
them and send stuff to them, but they ignore the spoolfiles. When I start
the spool, I get SNMP errors, and it tells me that it cannot communicate
with the network printer. If I set "snmp_enabled = FALSE" in the NPCONFIG,
I don't get the error, but the SPOOLFLE shows up as ACTIVE, forever and
ever. The printer never seems to get PINGed.
Now I heard the I can solve all this by purchasing one or more third-party
products such as NP92 (MIniSoft), but I was wondering if there were any
other ways around this?? I also seem to remember a discussion about
connecting using a JetDirect EX to a parallel port. Is this an alternative
to the third-party product??
Thanks in advance.
