a little known feature of nmmgr is that it *will* run interactively (non-block
mode).  if you equate 'nmmgrcmd' to <whatever> (and '$stdinx' works well for
fingers-to-keyboard, eyeballs-to-screen times :-) it won't go into block mode.
you can read all about it in 'using the node management services (nms)
utilities' manual.         - d
