From InformationWeek:
** HP Snaps Up Bluestone
Hewlett-Packard is buying Bluestone Software Inc., a maker of Web-
based mobile and conventional E-commerce software. Bluestone
stockholders would receive 0.2433 shares, pre-split, of HP common
stock for each of their common shares. The deal, valued at $468.5
million, awaits shareholder approval.
HP wants Bluestone's Java 2 Enterprise Edition and Extensible
Markup Language application servers and tools, which allow
businesses to develop and deploy online applications and services.
"The industry is embracing XML as a key way to deliver E-services,
and with Bluestone's software infrastructure, we intend to build a
world-class software division within HP," says Bill Russell, VP of
general manager of HP Software and Solutions.
Bluestone's application servers and its Java-transaction service
will be integrated with HP's middleware products e-speak and
ChangEngine. The combined software will let companies develop,
integrate, deploy, and manage J2EE and XML apps and services
throughout their networks and their trading partners' networks. HP
will sell consulting, implementation, and integration services for
Bluestone software. - Aisha Williams
