9876 and -9876 are used by ORBiT backup in some manner.
You've already heard that FSCHECK can purge the files.
<plug>
De-Frag/X's ALTFILE command allows you to change the filecode, and privileged
protection level, of files ... which, in turn, means you could look at their
contents and/or purge them. (www.lund.com)
Example:
De-Frag/X> altfile t filecode 0
Old state:
FILE_CODE : 9876
NO_BACKUP : False
PRIV_LEVEL : 3
PROTECTED : False
TEMP_FILE : False
RELEASED : False
IGNORE_PATH : False
RESTORE : False
STORE : False
PURGE_PENDING : False
ACD_REQUIRED : False
S_ISUID : False
S_ISGID : False
PURGE_PROTECT : False
HSM_COMPRESSED : False
HSM_MIGRATED : False
Are you sure you want to alter t? (def=N) y
New state:
FILE_CODE : 0
NO_BACKUP : False
PRIV_LEVEL : 3
PROTECTED : False
</plug>
