Bruce,
Yes there are issues with RoadRunner on 6.5. We really pound RoadRunner.
We use AUTOSYNC to Disk, copy to tape and then Restore to a second system
across the network from parallel VT files, etc., etc. There is no other
Backup product that has some of these features that we rely on. We own
TurboStore with all options, but it doesn't have the features and it's also
very slow. Depending on how you use RR, there are various things to look
out for.

Upgrade RoadRunner. These are the issues with the latest versions.
1). 5.0.5 - This is the old version running on MPE/IX 6.0. Will crash
MPE/IX 6.5.
2). 5.3.1 - Corrupts $STDLIST if you use AUTOSYNC. Not good if you want
to review the STDLIST after the job completes. It just cuts off. But
otherwise all is OK.
3). 5.3.2 - Crashes the system on Parallel restore from VT files across
the Network. Otherwise OK.
4.) 5.3.3(a2) - Very Slow to Tape. Like a job to tape would take 100
times longer.
5.) 5.3.3.(a4) - Corruption of STDIN with AUTOSYNC or STDOUT without
AUTSYNC (problem is intermittent). STDIN corruption causes the job to
abort after EXIT from RR (even with HPAUTOCONT set TRUE). Otherwise the
BACKUP on VT looks OK. No problems to and from tape.

ROC is working on a fix for #5 now (today).

Other issues - MPE/IX 6.5 patches - Memory manager patch or RR will crash
the system. I think it's in PP I.

Other MPE/IX 6.5 problems. Get Powerpatch I, plus other reactive patches.
Some are in Beta
1. Performance - MPELX97a (beta) - Without it the system will freeze
for up to 10-15 minutes.
2. Turboimage - (TPS - problems with NETBASE shadowing ) TIXLX74C
(beta). This has something to do with the 127 open files limit per user.
Fixed by a patch in MPE/IX 5.5. Re-introduced on MPE/IX 6.0.
3. If you use BULDACCT (on a big system) to create your accounting
structure you will find that it will abort because an internal temp file is
built too small. An SR was issued today.

WARNING: MPE/IX 6.5 is very unstable without any patches.

Subject: BackPack/Roadrunner issues for MPE 6.5?

I thought I heard that some people had problems with
RoadRunner, that if they
aborted a backup job stream, that the
system was likely to Halt. I don't remember the specifics.
Could someone enlighten me if they have had issues with
RoadRunner running on
MPE 6.5. (Our backups are very important to us) thanks
