Viv,

Here in Baguio City dog is also quite popular. However, people
don't eat their own dogs any more than you ate your own cows. If
they want to eat dog, they either buy some meat in the market,
buy a dog for the express purpose of eating him (I've heard that
dogs that nip at people have a better chance of getting eaten),
or use fresh roadkill (the value of a dog immediately rises when
it is accidentally killed and the driver has to pay for it).
People wouldn't think of eating their pet (usually, not even if
the dog was hit by a car).

For some reason, black dogs are said to be tastier than others,
and fat dogs are said to taste too "doggy," so skinnier dogs are
preferred. Also, dogs are said to know people who eat dog meat,
and to not like those people much.

Chris
