Greetings, people of -L.
I have just completed an interesting phone call with Bob Berry, the Director
of Customer Retention for Cognos, working out of the Burlington office.
After my initial go-around with a salesperson and subsequent posting of that
goodtime to the list, some respondents thought I'd be advised to take a hike
up the food chain, making my case, and see where it ended up....nothing to
lose, etc.
I asked for the Boss Of Bosses (for Powerhouse MPE/iX), and got directed to
Mr. Berry.
I made my case, plain and simple. On a box with net value around $1K, I'd
have a hard sell to mgmt. on a piece of software 12x the machine's value. I
also touted the robustness of the development product, my comfort level in
using it, the short timeline involved at the client site, and my overall
good feelings about a toolset I've worked with since 1.07!!
While reattaching my lips, Mr. Berry got down to it.
He didn't think pricing should be the reason to not use the product, and we,
together, arrived at a >Very< Fair Price!!!
No, this isn't a paid endorsment, and no, there probably ARE still list-wide
considerations with Cognos Corp. and their legendary pricing.
What this is, is a brief post expressing gratitude to a vendor who paid some
heed to their user base. As a result of Mr. Berry's gesture, I can have
much more confidence in delivering product within a tight time frame.
Apparently, someone at Cognos gets it.
