Hello Folks,

Re: FTP timeouts

-----------------------------------------------Rick Tomlinson writes--
We have a job on our 979 (running 6.0 pp1) that opens an FTP session
to a Unix box, and sequentially puts files over there. The FTP
session sends 30 files that range in size from 400 bytes to 73 Mbytes,
and takes about 15 minutes when successful (for all files). About 50%
of the time, the FTP session will time-out and the rest of the files
will not be sent over. When this happens, I can rerun the same job
and it often works. When it times-out, it doesn't always hang on the
same file. Is there a config setting somewhere on the HP that may
need adjustment? Is this a problem with our network? Any comments
welcome!

Thanks, Rick T.

I would suggest taking a look in the HP IT-RC at SR 8606156227
document 200000051967550 which is an enhancement request to increase
the default number of TCP connections from 128 to 1024. It talks
about FTP on 6.0 & 6.5 running out of TCP connections.

The next time you see the problem, go to NETTOOL...

:run nettool.net.sys;info="status;tcpstat;tcpglobal @;quit"
...
TCP GLOBAL Statistics
Maximum number of connections allowed : 1024 <max configured>
...
Number of connections currently open : 1 <current open>
...

...and check to see if you have run out of TCP connections. If you
have, then you should increase this configuration parameter in NMMGR
screen "NETXPORT.GPROT.TCP".
