We had problems with both of the 7980's that we converted from HP-IB to
SCSI.  We purchased the upgrade kits from a 3rd party vendor, there were
issues with the EPROM versions and firmware (?).  Then, there was the
problem of manuals, or the lack of them; we couldn't find them anywhere, so
we have to call HP to help us change configurations.

My advice would be to have HP do the upgrade for you.  Let them figure out
what you need and how to get your drives up and running.

BTW, our tape drives are running just fine now.
