A cursory glance would suggest the problem is on the Unix side
we have entries that look like this :-

machinename MGR.SYSLOG
machinename MANAGER.SYS
machinename MAESTRO.CCC

Where machinename is the HP3000 with the .rhosts perms -r--------
i.e. chmod 400 .rhosts

............  I'd take a longer look but it's 18:54 GMT
and this is a Bank Holiday weekend in the U.K. !

Subject: [HP3000-L] remsh from HP3000 to SUN Solaris

I've set up SUN Solaris System for testing (we're going to move this
production) and have altered the:

     .rhosts of the target directory with the hp userid (all variations);
     /etc/hosts.equiv with the same as the .rhosts;
     /etc/hosts with the address of the hp3000 and hp.

SERVICES.NET.SYS does have a "shell 514/tcp cmd" entry.

In the shell, when I do a:

     /SYS/NET/REMSH ip.address -l userid -n pwd

I get:
     permission denied

when I do a:

     /SYS/NET/REMSH ip.address -l userid -n pwd

I get:

     rcmd: connect: ip.address: Connection refused

Any ideas?
