Well I use it on DLT's all the time when I need to put a tape back online
and it works fine

We stream a job out of the SYSSTART file that performs such functions.. I
was always under the impression that DEVCTRL did not work on DLT's. Not sure
how or why but did not pursue any further. I am going to run with it and see
what happens.

You must reissue the DEVCTRL command after every restart of the system. I
have also not been able to get it to work when I put it in SYSSTART. It just
hangs there.

Cool......I didn't know you could do that.   Does that functionality go away
after you bounce the system?
