A similar sort of thing happened in Sperry Univac when VS/9 was competing against OS/1100.

Fortunately, Sperry merged with Burroughs to make Unisys, which then began the cycle all over again.

It would be real interesting to know what the internal political and
marketing wars that I assume are going on inside HP are all about.
