It maynot be to us but then, it is not our Navy lying on the bottom of the
lagoon.  One has to wonder how the Japanese feel about it.

As a member of the U.S. Navy, I lived and worked in Japan for 13 years. From my knowledge of the Japanese people (my wife is Japanese, as are many of my friends) I would say without doubt that they would be shocked and horrified to know that family members remains were being moved about the lagoon, no matter what the reason. Personally, I think it's extremely disrespectful, just as conducting a dive on the Arizona would be disrepectful to the memory of the Sailors who are forever entombed there.

Should we respect the culture of others or ignore it and do what we wish?
(and yes, I have had numerous run-ins with Japanese tour groups in Europe.)

I firmly believe we need to respect the culture of others. If we choose to not do so, we have no right to expect anyone to respect our culture.
