Another neat trick is to define a device class in SYSGEN called "NOT1", or
something similar, which encompasses all the disc drives in the
MPEXL_SYSTEM_VOLUME_SET *execpt* LDEV 1.

Then, if you have MPEX, you can do something like

   %altfile @[log in to unmask];dev=not1

If you don't have MPEX, it takes a little more work, but you can still
accomplish the same thing:

   :file t;dev=tape
   :store @[log in to unmask];*t;purge
   :restore *t;@[log in to unmask];olddate;dev=not1
