For those who are interested and are tracking these things (FWIW), I also
see the "equal mangling".

I'm using Eudora Pro 3.1 for Mac OS (yes, I know it's an old version, but
it's also *very* stable, and does everything I need it to. Besides, I know
of at least one person on the list who still uses elm!).

Our mail server at the office is OpenMail for linux. Interestingly, someone
else at my office who uses Pegasus for wintel reports that he doesn't see
the equal mangling. YMMV, I guess...
