Clue number three: The following message was from Jeff in May. If my memory
serves correctly, this is the day on which the problems with the equal signs
started.

I was changing the default settings on a new list this morning. Since
I generally do the most maintenance on HP3000-L rather than the other
lists here, I fat-fingered a 'quiet set hp3000-L subjecthdr for *@*'
rather than the list I intended.
You can 'undo' this by sending a 'set hp3000-L shorthdr' to
[log in to unmask], or via the web interface:
http://raven.utc.edu/cgi-bin/WA.EXE?SUBED1=hp3000-l&A=1
Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused anyone that doesn't
want HP3000-L in the subject...
