Stan asks can QUERY/SUPRTOOL let you do
 "find dataset.key (detail pathlength = 0)"?)

It takes 2 steps in Suprtool:

   >get     detailset         >get    masterset
   >extract keyfield          >table  t1,keyfield,file,detlfile
   >output  detlfile          >if NOT $lookup(t1,keyfield)
   >xeq                       >delete
                              >xeq
