Sorry, but if the printer does not support PCL (or is not a PostScript
printer) it will not work satisfactorily using HP's network printing.

<plug> See the "net.digest" section of the July and August issues of The
3000 News/Wire for more information about what you can , can not, and might
be able to do with HP's network printing. Note: also reflected at
3KWorld.com </plug>

Subject: [HP3000-L] Connecting a non-HP network printer

I'm encountering some problems when trying to connect a non-HP printer
(sorry) as a network printer on an HP3000 (with a JetDirect box): The Mpe/iX
Network spooler (OUTSPTJ)always add some escape sequences at beginning of
spoolfile (Ec%-12345XEcZEcEEc&l0V).

I found some information about this type of escape sequence on the HP web
site at the following URL :
http://www.hp.com/cposupport/printers/support_doc/bpl01378.html
The 'Ec%-12345X' is called a UEL (Universal Exit Language) and seems to be
used for entering PJL commands. Of course, i tried to use the PJL_SUPPORTED
parameter in NpConfig, giving it a value 'False'. But it doesn't change
anything.

My problem is that this printer doesn't print anything when it receives
those escape sequences although it works perfectly when sending the same
spoolfile with NbSpool from Quest Software (but i have to make it work on a
customer's system where NbSpool isn't and won't be installed).

So if anyone knows a way to avoid this behaviour ...

Thanks in advance to who will save me ;D

Jerome
