And now I'll chime in, too.
First, ditto the comments someone else made about The Hobbit and The Lord
of the Rings. My childhood wouldn't have been the same without these books.
Next, I must mention Madeline L'Engle's A Wrinkle In Time. This is a very
cool book. I've read it many times, most recently, only a couple of years
ago as a "full-fledged adult", and it was just as enjoyable as I had
remembered it.
Finally, two books about animals must be added to the list: Watership Down
(about rabbits), and Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH (mice, rats, owls,
cats, etc...). Sorry, I don't remember the authors of these books, but I
know a quick net search would bring them up.
