A few months back, I wrote a comprehensive message about this issue. (3/28/00)

I am including just a few lines here, with URLs.

(snip)
I decided to look at www.ec.kingston.com and see what they have to offer for
memory for the HP 3000.

They also list the HP 3000. Good start.

I looked at the 9x8 series, they support it. 64MB is $236 and 128MB is $571.

For the 917LX they only list 32MB at $259. They have 64Mb and 128MB for the
9x7 series at $369 and $614 respectively.

(snip)
I was just browsing at www.crucial.com looking to buy extra memory for my new
laptop when I saw HP listed as a supported manufacturer. Just for grins, I
clicked on it. It listed 3000 series, 9000 series and others. Intrigued, I
clicked on the 3000 series and out popped a list of all the current and older
models of the HP 3000. I clicked on the model of the computer I have right
next to me, a 917LX and got rewarded with quite a bit of information, including
some really interesting notes.

Bottom line, HP says 192MB is max for the 917, but Crucial says they have a
customer who has gone up to 768MB with no problems or modifications. They want
$557 for 128 MB.

Kind regards,

Denys. . .

Subject: HPe3000/9x7 Memory Prices

It's been a while since I last sourced any memory for a 9x7 machine. At the
time it was more cost effective to purchase 64MB memory chips compared to
the 128MB memory chips. Is that still likely to be the same situation
today? I would be interested in any url giving memory prices and options
for the 9x7 machines.

Thanks,
