Ok, remember that I mentioned early this morning that there were probably
a few bugs that I'd need to work out of the gateway code? Well, for those
of you using comp.sys.hp.mpe, you've probably noticed the 30+ identical
postings from Wirt Atmar about emailing HP marketing with slogans.
No, Wirt is not badgering us about it :) The problem was that in the queue
of emails from HP3000-L to be posted to comp.sys.hp.mpe was an email
from that did not include a subject header. That in itself is not a problem,
but the subject is a required field to the Cold Fusion-NNTP interface routine
that the gateway uses to post messages. When it hit Randall's email, it
aborted. Wirt's message was already posted, but not removed from the
queue, thus causing the repeated postings. This also meant that all
subsequent messages were delayed in being transferred.
I sincerely apologize to Wirt for the phone calls he must have gotten ;)
and to those using comp.sys.hp.mpe for the dups. I've added some
logic to prevent that situation from occuring again (If no header, substitute
a default one), but I'm sure there are other bugs out there waiting to
be squashed.
Regards,
Michael L Gueterman
