Okay maybe primary and secondary classes are just the way I think of them (
we are a
predominantly a site using various flavours of Unix, so our 'solutions' may
not be
as esoteric as long term HP3000 sites would be ) this however, as relatively
late
arrivals into this environment, is the way we configure network printers :-
In SYSGEN/IO :-
io> AD LDEV=367;PATH=NONE;ID=HPTCPJD;CLASS=NETLP TLLASER2
io> LD CLASS=NETLP
LDEV: 100/115 NMMGR
LDEV: 365 DEVNAME: OUTDEV: 0 MODE:
OS
ID: HPTCPJD RSIZE: 66 DEVTYPE: PP
PATH: NONE MPETYPE: 32 MPESUBTYPE: 0
CLASS: NETLP TSLASER1 TSGHP
LDEV: 366 DEVNAME: OUTDEV: 0 MODE:
OS
ID: HPTCPJD RSIZE: 66 DEVTYPE: PP
PATH: NONE MPETYPE: 32 MPESUBTYPE: 0
CLASS: NETLP TKLASER1
LDEV: 367 DEVNAME: OUTDEV: 0 MODE:
OS
ID: HPTCPJD RSIZE: 66 DEVTYPE: PP
PATH: NONE MPETYPE: 32 MPESUBTYPE: 0
CLASS: NETLP TKLASER2
..................... and so on,
Then we associate this device with its ip-address
SYS:PRINT NPCONFIG.PUB.SYS
global (setup_file = PCLLPSGA.HPENV.SYS # SGA print envmt.
banner_header = FALSE
banner_trailer = FALSE
pjl_supported = FALSE
jam_recovery = TRUE
data_timeout = 20
poll_interval = 25)
360 (network_address = 100.0.9.160 # LPLASER.
setup_file = PCLLPSGA.HPENV.SYS
message_interval = 60)
365 (network_address = 10.97.31.10 # NETLP.
setup_file = PCLLPSGA.HPENV.SYS
message_interval = 60)
366 (NETWORK_ADDRESS=106.1.2.1 # NETLP
SETUP_FILE=PCLLPSGA.HPENV.SYS
MESSAGE_INTERVAL=60)
367 (NETWORK_ADDRESS=106.1.2.2 # NETLP
SETUP_FILE=PCLLPSGA.HPENV.SYS
MESSAGE_INTERVAL=60)
368 (NETWORK_ADDRESS=90.1.2.1 # NETLP
SETUP_FILE=PCLLPSGA.HPENV.SYS
MESSAGE_INTERVAL=60
RUN_PRIORITY=BS)
.
........ etc
We have 45 network printers configured this way. We don't use the DTC at
all.
I can refer to the printer's device number 367, the user nominated printer
name TKLASER2
or the 'global' class name NETLP.
